How to get Vietnam visa in Chiang Mai

This is a guide to get a visa to Vietnam for:

Thai citizens living in Chiang Mai, and

There are two options to get a visa to Vietnam from Chiang Mai, Thailand as follows:

1. Get visa at local embassy/consulate

As there is currently no office of Vietnam embassy/Consulate in Chiang Mai, if you want to get visa to Vietnam by this way, please contact the Vietnam embassy in Bangkok which is 702 km from Chiang Mai or General Consulate of Vietnam in Khonkaen which is 648 km from Chiang Mai.

You should prepare the following documents:

Original passport
Completed and signed application form
Sponsor letter from Vietnam-based company (to get business visa)
Prepaid envelope with your address (to get visa and passport returned by post)

2. Get visa on arrival from Chiang Mai

If you are currently in Chiang Mai, Thailand and planning a trip to Vietnam by air, you definitely can get a Visa on arrival (VOA). This type of visa is also known as Visa at the airport, issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department. Its application requires you NO travel and NO submission of any document. The full process to get a visa on arrival covers 3 steps as follows:

Step 1

Fill out the secured application form with required information including full name, date of birth, passport number, arrival date, etc.
Double check your information.
Make payment for service fee via Credit/ Debit Card via OnePay/ PayPal or bank transfer.

Step 2

Get visa approval letter by email within 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 7 working days (for business visa) or even faster upon your request.

Step 3

Print the letter, prepare original passport, a hard copy of Vietnam Entry & Exit form, 02 passport-sized photos, and cash for stamping fee;
Board the airplane to fly to Vietnam; and
