Do South Korean Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Updated: From January 29, 2020, the visa exemption for South Korean citizens will be temporarily suspended. We will keep you update when we get informed.

The table below shows a summary of the current Vietnam visa requirements for South Korean citizens:

Before January 29, 2020: South Korean visitors DO NOT need to obtain a visa to Vietnam if their stay is no longer than 15 days and they:

• have never been to Vietnam; or
• never been to Vietnam with visa exemption; or
• have their arrival date not fall within 15 days from the exit date of their last stay in Vietnam with free visa

Important note: No matter the South Koreans enter Vietnam with or without the visa, they need to make sure:

• Their South Korea passport is valid for at least 06 months following their arrival date
• Their South Korea passport has at least 02 blank pages for immigration stamps

How to Apply for Vietnam Visa for South Korean Citizens

There are 02 common ways to get a visa to Vietnam for the citizens of South Korea as follows:

1. Apply at Local Vietnam Embassy

With this way of visa application for Vietnam, the South Korean passport holders will need to contact an office of the Vietnam embassy/consulate. Luckily, there is an office of Vietnam embassy in Seoul, Korea which is in charge of issuing the Vietnam embassy visa. You can get its details here.

In case you are not in South Korea, you absolutely contact any embassy/consulate of Vietnam which is convenient for you to apply for the visa to Vietnam.

Normally, you need to follow this procedure:

• Prepare the following documents:
  • Vietnam visa application form (complete, print out and attached with photo)
  • Original passport
  • Approval letter issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department if applying for business visa to Vietnam for South Koreans
  • others as required by the embassy/consulate
• Follow the visa procedure required by the embassy/consulate to submit the visa documents and pick up the visa if issued

2. Apply Vietnam Visa Online (Recommended)

This way of Vietnam visa application for South Koreans traveling to Vietnam by air is highly recommended as it will save both time and cost. It is called visa on arrival.
