Do Thai Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Thai passport holders DO NOT need a visa for Vietnam for every stay of a maximum of 30 days. They only need a visa if they wish to stay in Vietnam for over 30 consecutive days.

To enter Vietnam, whether under visa exemption or not, their Thai passports should:

  • be valid for at least 6 months following arrival date in Vietnam;
  • have at least 2 blank pages.

How to Apply for Vietnam Visa for Thai Citizens?

Thai citizens and passport holders can choose from the following two methods to get a Vietnamese visa if their length of stay in Vietnam is longer than 30 days:

1. Get Visa at Local Vietnam Embassy

Contact the local Vietnam embassy/consulate in Thailand (if you are residing in Thailand), or in nearby countries (if you are not residing in Thailand currently) to get visa stamped on your passport before going to Vietnam.

2. Get Vietnam Visa Upon Arrival (Recommended)

The easiest way to get a visa for Vietnam for visitors from Thailand (including Thai citizens and passport holders) who are traveling to Vietnam by air is to get Visa On Arrival (VOA).

With VOA, you apply online via Vietnamvisaservice by taking these steps:

Fill out the secure online application form, and make payment of service fee.
Receive the visa approval letter by email.
Normally in 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 7 working days (for business visa), attached with Vietnamese application form (also as Entry and Exit Form).
Get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport.
